These two Thoroughbred mares arrived from an estate. The owner passed away in June 2004 and the family didn't want the horses and called us. Both are between fifteen and seventeen years old and have been backyard pets all their lives with no training whatsoever. Neither had ever been ridden nor even given names. Both have extensive human contact and are very sweet. They should go together since they have been with each other all their lives. Both have blindness in the right eye due to injuries sustained at their former home. Honey would not trailer at all, even after our vet administered four shots of sedative. The former owner had a few of his college students try and muscle her into the trailer resulting in her getting injured and requiring thirty staples to close the woulds she suffered. The decision was made to walk her home to the facility, a distance of fifteen miles. You can read about the journey by clicking HERE.
On May 10,2005, Babe was laid to rest because of a broken leg she suffered when kicked by one of the other horses. She was just starting to come around and learning to trust people. Honey is warming up to just about everyone now and really loves and even demands attention. It remains to be seen what she will ever do. It has to be done slowly as everything is new to her and her age is against her.
