Back in 1993, he was in a boarding stable just neglected by his teenage owner.
We made a few inquiries and found the name of the owner, called them and arranged for Cham to be sold to us.
He was in a small rocky stall and his legs were full of open sores.
He never got to go out and play with the other horses.
We placed him in sanctuary after arriving in New York.
He has been diagnosed with a condition called shivers and a bad heart.
We don't know how much longer he has so we take it one day at a time with him.
In the nine years we have had him, he has carried over a hundred volunteers on his back and never dumped one.
He is retired now but still likes to get out once in awhile to keep his spirits up.
Cham is in his late twenties.
As of August 2006, Cham is still with us although he has lost a considerable amount of weight. We started him on a new regimen of five meals daily and he has put some weight back on and seems happy. He still gets ridden once in a while and still loves to go on short trail rides. Cham is now 30 years old.
On August 3, 2007 Champagne crossed the Rainbow Bridge. We had him for thirteen wonderful years and his passing left a huge whole in our hearts. He was one in a million and a great friend and teacher. Goodbye old friend until we meet again.
