H.O.R.S.E. Rescue and Sanctuary
Jake
Jake came to the Rescue as a troubled horse. Jemma, the woman who was kind enough to rescue him from the auction house was told that he should be put down for being "dangerous". He had good reason to be. He was being severely abused by a yokel who thought all you had to do to rope off a horse was get on one and throw your lariat. Jake did his best but but he became entangled in a rope with a calf on the other end and he panicked. The idiot owner then tried to untangle Jake and got his arm broken in the process. Of course, it was Jake's fault and for being so stupid, Jake was abused for nearly two years and then sent to auction. That's where Jemma came in. She spotted Jake and put in the winning bid and took him home.
For the next year, Jemma worked with Jake to restore his trust and confidence but Jemma is a vet tech not a horse trainer and she could only take him so far. Next enter the Rescue. Jemma called us and asked if we could do something for him and we said we would try. We had him shipped to Linda Holm's farm and she began working with him immediately. She started all over with him from the ground up as if he were a foal. Day after day, she worked with Jake. One little step at a time until he started to trust and realize he wasn't going to be beaten for something he did.
Three long months later, Jake was a new horse. Diana from New Jersey heard about him from our website and was intrigued enough to make the long trip to Rochester. It was instant love between the two of them and we knew we had a winner here.
Jake went home with Diana on April 11, 2000. Diana would get worried when she couldn't find Jake or her husband but would find them out under a tree with her husband laying in the grass talking to Jake. Looks like both of them took to Jake the "killer horse".
