Sugar Kaine or better known as Kaine became a resident of the rescue on August 31, 2009. He came from the Atlanta area and was suffering from a condition called anhydrosis which is a horse's inability to sweat. A horse removes up to 65% of it's body heat through sweating and this condition could be fatal if not managed either through medication or a physical relocation to a cooler climate. His former decided that a move north would be the best thing for him so we agreed to take him in. In Georgia the temperture would reach 98 degrees with 95% humidity for four months. Medical authorities believ that some horses' sweat glands desensitize with the constant heat and basically just stop working. He is now off any medication and we will continue to monitor him during our warm weather to see if his condition either returns or disappears all together. We feel he has an excellent chance of outgrowing this condition and right now he is fine with our cooler weather.
Kaine, whose registered name is MSHF Bay Mans Pride No. 176460, is a 14.2 hand dark bay gelding foaled May 10, 2007. We understand his lineage is Lippett both top and bottom. He is very handsome and kind. Kaine was started under saddle when he turned two but for only 15 minutes twice a week. With his pedigree we feel he would make an excellent show prospect for someone. He is available for placement.
