June or as she is now known, Lapona, came to the rescue on November 24, 2004. We got an urgent e-mail from a lady in PA that had adopted June out to a man in Hamburg, NY. He told her he wanted her out NOW! She lives six hours from where June was located and appealed to us for help. After a few preliminary questions as to health, temperament, vices, etc. we decided that she might be good with a therapeutic riding and called Meadows of Mendon Farm where we had twoo other horses placed and happens to be a therapeutic riding facility. Than and Amy Jenkins, who operate the facility, agreed to take her on a temporary basis. They loaded up their truck and trailer and off they went to Hamburg to pick June up.
After having June for a month, Amy and Thane were so impressed with her that they called and wanted to adopt her. The kids that ride at their facility renamed her Lapona so Lapona it is. Lapona is nineteen years old and a registered Morgan. She was shown for many years and is still a kid at her age. She is absolutely wonderful with the children and loves what she is doing. One day, Amy was working some of the horses in their indoor arena and had Lapona in there as well just kind of hanging out. Amy had set up some small jumps and with no further encouragement, Lapona started jumping them all by herself as if to say to Amy,"I can do that stuff too". Amy, Thane and Lapona will be together hauling psycically challenged kids around for many years. Thanks to Amy and Thane for taking her and trusting our judgement.
