Sandy

Sandy came to us in September 1999 and left us on June 22, 2002.
During her short stay with us she became quite a character.
She would paw the ground so much that we had to keep changing her stall.
She would dig and dig until each stall that she occupied looked like the Grand Canyon of the east.
She eventually got every horse pawing for their food.
She loved Free and would whinney every time Free was out of sight.
Sandy was a camp horse used by kids summer after summer.
She came to us used up and on her way to slaughter until a young woman named Stephanie stepped in and saved her and Blue, another camp pony.
The abuse of both of them only reinforced our policy to NOT place horses in camps where they will be used until they drop and are disposed of like trash.
Sandy had a short time with us but was loved by all the volunteers and staff.
On June 22, 2002, she laid down for the last time and crossed the Rainbow Bridge on her own.
She was tired and wanted peace.
