He loves children.
We took him to the new PetsMart grand opening in Brockport, NY where they have an indoor stall.
He was rather aloof when adults were around but if a child approached they had his undivided attention.
He would put his head down and let them stroke his nose.
One mentally challenged young woman in a wheelchair wanted to pet him so we brought him out of his stall to meet his new friend.
He very cautiously approached her and sniffed her wheelchair and then very very gently lowered his head so she could touch him.
He stood very quietly for her.
He was right in front of her and had he wanted to take one step he would have knocked her out of the wheelchair.
He is an uncanny horse and senses things we could never understand.
He is now ten years old and stands 15.3 hands.
He is a registered quarter horse.
His lineage goes back to Poco Bueno, Wimpy, Doc Bar and on his dam's side he is sixth generation out of Man O' War.
He is very playful and loves to give hugs.
Sonny is not for adoption.
The summer of 2003 was an eventful one for Sonny. During the previous year, Corie Brown, one of our volunteers and a vet student at Cornell asked if she could show Sonny in some of the local shows and we said yes, not really knowing what to expect. As of August 13th, 2003 Sonny was in three shows and won a total of twenty ribbons and two first place trophies at the Wyoming County Fair. We are proud of the both of them. This is a picture of both of them at the fair and you can tell it was better suited for mud wrestling. The weather was terrible and we're thankful that none of the horses slipped in the mud.
Sadly, we have to report that Sonny broke a leg in August of 2007 and had to euthanized. He was a champion.
